I'm sorry, but why would you prioritize a laptop over a newer (and thus probably more reliable) car? People seem to fall into this trap of having to buy everything brand new, but gently used electronics can be purchased easily on Ebay, and Paypal has bomb buyer protection these days so you have little to worry about as far as being scammed. When I accidentally broke my phone's screen about 6 months ago I nabbed another of the same model (Galaxy S5), with more storage space, and with a charger, case and screen protector off of Ebay for $80.
So a broken laptop stopped you from getting a car? Sound like thou didn't have enough money for the car to begin with. How were you planning on paying for insurance?
maybe they already had a car in which case they simply had to purchase the car and transfer over their insurance which would mean they already had that in the budget.
Depending on the device and how badly it's soaked, it might still be fixed by drying, give it a day or two just to be sure.
Your boyfriend isn't as computer-savvy as he thinks he is. Take your laptop to a computer shop. This CAN be fixed.
how expensive Is the laptop? if just that can ruin your savings fund then you don't have enough for a car.

You didn't have enough money for the car if you didn't have an emergency fund to cover stuff like your laptop. Sorry about your laptop though, that sucks.
Pretty sure your laptop was broken the moment you spilled on it, no matter what advice your boyfriend gave you.
