Today, I worked up the courage to ask out the girl I liked. I got her a nice bracelet for her birthday and asked her on a date when I gave it to her. "Aww, you're so sweet!" was the response to the gift. Her response to the date proposal? "Wait, you aren't gay?" FML

Girls don't like gay guys in that way. They think of them as their perfect guy without a sexual component. They never think of the gay best friend as a sexual partner. Sorry bro.

I think what is actually going on here is that op is either heterosexual or bisexual (either way, he likes women) but the girl he likes heard he was gay (from rumors I'm guessing) so she never considered him as a potential boyfriend.

I like how you've already put "like" in the past tense. Hope you find a girl that wants to go on a date with you soon!

You should of asked first and then gave her the bracelet

"Hey, do you think I'm gay, despite a lack of evidence to the contrary? I don't really know for sure what you think my sexual orientation is, so I'd just thought I'd ask before I gave you a present like jewelry." How dare OP not think of asking questions that no one would think to ask in the first place!

"Oh, yeah, I am gay; I forgot." —No one ever

Perfect opportunity to say 'no, I'm not.'

I'm sure the next time you ask somebody out on a date it'll go better. Not the response I would ever give to anyone whether I thought they were gay or not (gotta respect other people's views or how am I supposed to expect them to respect mine?). But anyways that made my day seem less dull now.

I've had this happen to me before when I asked out my first crush.

Tell her you're not gay and take her out.

Take action and deny this claim in order to reach your goal! Just because she initially thought this, dosen't mean that you don't have at going out with her as long as she is rightly informed.

Sounds like something that would happen to me.
