Today, my 12-year-old daughter glued her left eyelid shut with fake eyelash glue. After spending 4 hours in the ER, I asked her why she did it. "I wanted to get Blake to notice me," she said. Blake is our neighbor's convict son. FML

Hi everybody! OC here. I guess I didn't put enough details in my FML as I could: So I'll tell you all the WHOLE story. Blake is 17 years old. Yes he is a convict currently on parol. I cannot remember exactly WHAT he did, but I believe it was either Breaking and Entering or he stole a car. I'm not positively sure. Also: I could not get off the eyelash glue with warm water or make up remover because her eyelashes were going inward towards her eye and frankly, my daughter wouldn't stay still long enough for me to even try. To all the commenters who said "Keep an eye on your daughter." Nice pun. But she is twelve years old so I'm pretty sure even if I tried to pay attention she'd say something along the lines of "Go away mom!" Or "What do you want?!" So yeah. Blake also does NOT flirt with my daughter (thank goodness) and they've only met once, when they moved in. The funny thing is, he can't even get her name right. Her name is Violet, but he insists on calling her Veronica. So, no marriage plans yet! Yay!

You should tell her that the boys that will only notice her for her looks aren't the kind of boys she should be after.

The only thing that came to my mind is "how olds Blake?"

I don't understand this. how will he notice her if she can't see him noticing?

She didn't need to glue her eyelids, she's blind already

Well that whole situation seemed eye opening.

It's not your job to judge who your daughter likes nor control it .

Yeah, but if you had a 12 year old going after, I'm assuming a much older guy since he is a convict, wouldn't you try and steer them away from people like that?? I sure as hell would.

Er, yes it is. At 12, are you kidding me? She's not 18, she's 12. Pretty sure it's totally still the responsibility of the parent to protect a minor.

a proper parent would indeed take control of the situation. a 12 year doesn't know his or her own ass from their elbow so parental guidance should be there.

I do t think its that bad..... How old is Blake? That's what makes the matters bad or okay. She is almost old enough to make her own decisions and what was he convicted for?

She's not even a teenager yet Hell no she isn't close to being able to make her own decisions.

Although that is pretty disturbing to see a little girl already changing physically to try and get a guy because of the rules of society, the fact that the apple of her eye is a convict doesn't and really shouldn't matter. To your daughter, he is probably just the cute boy next door. Working in fast food taught me that some of the coolest and nicest people come out of prison so please don't be quick to judge. Just teach your daughter to respect herself and value her worth and not to change for any man, and I can pretty much promise she will pick a good man to be with when she gets older. Telling her not to like someone just because of his background will just increase the infatuation with him and lead to problems that a 12 year old shouldn't have.

It definitely depends on what he was convicted of. Hopefully it was something minor and non-violent.

As the little girl is only 12, I think there's a fairly good chance that whatever she does Blake won't notice her anyway. Keep a close eye on them just in case, though. As many people have said already - rather than be negative about her crush, try to reinforce to her that people who only notice you for your looks aren't worth it.
