Today, my 8 year old son asked me why he had to make his bed everyday if he would just use it again. I replied with, "You flush the toilet even though you're going to use it again, right?" He said, "Good point." Now he's not making his bed or flushing the toilet. FML

Next time go with, "You eat even though you'll have to eat again, right?" That's how my mom handled that question. I still didn't make my bed, but at least I didn't starve myself.

A for effort. It was a noble effort, OP.

Now the question is watch what you say so that he doesn't keep doing attributes this way

Sometimes you have to pick your battles. Toilet needs to be flushed, that's just nasty. Bed made, not so much. You can always close the door when company comes over. Kids do grow and mature. When my step daughter was 11, we had to drag her kicking and screaming into the shower. By the time she was 12, she spent do much time in the bathroom I was ready to slide her meals under the door!

next time just say "I feed you everyday even though you're just gonna die someday anyways."

Omg, that made me laugh so hard! xD Good one there. ;)

In his defense, we don't shit in our beds before we sleep in them again. Making your bed after sleeping in it is more like tying your shoes after you take them off. If he's not gonna make his bed, maybe you could settle for him just tidying it up a bit!?

OP, I've a 9yr old boy. He finally flushes/lifts

You could always threaten to stick his head in the toilet bowl if he's refusing to flush, he'll care about the bowl being empty then!

YDI for not giving a normal answer. Instead of simply saying "It's because of personal hygiene" or "Because it's been proven that if you make up your bed, your mind will be better focused", you give an answer that EVERY child despises his parents for. Children are nor stupid...

Has it really been proven that it helps you focus? I personally roll my duvet to the end of my bed...it's neat, but it's not conventional bed making. It works fine for me because I have a small room and use the bed as another surface, not just a bed. But still, it's not really 'made' but I've never had any hygiene problems or anything. And come to think of it, my brother doesn't make his bed at all....but he's still really focused. So yeah, gotta agree with the kid on this one. Tbh, this fml has just made me question why anyone really makes their bed.

Tell him He shouldnt brush his teeth cause hes going to eat again. Laugh when he has 40 cavities at the dentist

I don't think the parents would he laughing as they would have to pay for the dentist bill.
