Today, my boss told me that the company will be hiring a programmer for our department. I had the idea for the position when we went over my 3-year career path last month, but it wasn't approved. I now get to look over résumés from other people applying for my dream job. FML

Maybe you could ask about it before starting to look through the résumés

You could submit your resume' along with the others. I'm assuming, of course, that your boss gets the final say.

say nobody is qualified enough for it, that applied. then just say youre more than qualified to do it yourself, permanently.

Time to look for a new job. Do you really want to be working under someone like that?

Hire someone for your job then and hire yourself for the position you want. DuH

ask your boss if you can apply for the position too? you'd be staying in the department. It couldn't hurt to ask.

may not be the best idea but perhaps work on it on your own time...then submit it...it might work towards your faviour

Grow some balls! Tell your boss it's your dream job! They might be an idiot & didn't think of you or just waiting for you to apply.

Tell him it's your job to have! Already expected for it!

what 19 said but if he disagrees then slowly poisom him

Ouch.Sorry OP I'm sure you'll get that job in no time!

Apply for it yourself! If your boss kicks up a fuss, go over his head with proof that it was in your 3-year plan.
