There are other small dogs (not chihuahuas) that do not look like rats. And no matter how small the dog is, it still loves you. I'm sorry about your dog, OP.

If it was a puppy, then I'm truly and deeply sorry. If it was fully grown, however, then the owl was just controlling the rodent population. Get a real dog next time, and not an overgrown rat like a Chihuahua, Maltese, or Pomeranian.
