Today, my English professor accused me of plagiarizing a poem I submitted, because she'd read it online earlier that day. The poem was mine; I posted it after writing it for her class, and even after logging into the site to prove it, she reported me to the school. FML
I agree, your life sucks 35 189
You deserved it 2 750

ninjakomodo tells us more.

OP here, just for all of the people talking about self plagiarism, I checked. My university does not have that clause anywhere within the rules. I read through the entire thing and even checked with the legal department. I'm sure they will put it in after this. I have gone to the dean and they have forced the teacher to drop the case and give me the grade I deserved. They also decided, due to suggestion of the department head, that the department head himself will be grading everything that I submit to that teacher for the rest of the semester, and that I will not be able to take classes with that teacher anymore. I'm sure they will be evaluating their plagiarism rules more, and putting in a clause for self plagiarism, but we will see what happens. Luckily, I only have 2 more semesters there before I'm out of that school for good.

Sometimes teachers are not as bright as you expect them to be.

What a bitch, I'm sure the head of your department will believe you

OP tried explaining. It failed. Really? You love OP? Already? I'd say it's love at first FML post. I wish you two love birds all the best.

Shut up! It was an honest mistake, I'm so used to writing ily at the end of my texts to my friends and shit, I don't love OP. Bitch. Enuf said.

Posting it before the teacher grades it also risks others plaguerizing you.

I say go to a higher authority... then when they say it is acceptable, she will look stupid. Shouldn't matter if its been graded yet or not. If you wrote it, its yours and you should have every right to use it as you see fit.

Your professor is stupid to say the least. Hopefully you can prove her wrong when the school asks about it. Sorry that really sucks

Ehhh if the teacher isn't very tech savvy, logging into the site might have been meaningless to her. Hope all goes well with the dean or head if the department. I once submitted Johnny cash songs as my Poetry assignment and aced the course lol

That's plagiarism like I don't know what. Shame on you.

I hope you fall into a burning ring of fire.

I think, with what you just admitted to, that you are not the person to be giving advice to people about academics.

I didn't give anybody advice about academics, rather pontificated on why their "proof" might have failed

Write a new poem and submit it. I'll even give you the first line and you can finish it: The once was a prof from Nantucket,...

Once my English professor reported me for plagiarism when I used the name of a 5-6 word long medical group about 6-7 times in a report about the group. It was clearly totally unavoidable and not plagiarism. He threatened to have me kicked out of school because of it. I think he was still bitter about us running into each other at a party the weekend before, where he was drunk and stoned out of this world and arrested for fighting with his boyfriend. Anyways. I took the situation to the head of the English department and she pretty much told him to **** off. Situation dropped as quickly as it elevated. Though he took the defeated douchebag approach and graded my last 4 papers with absolutely no mercy. I passed with a B. Fight it OP!

Delete the poem you posted online and ask your professor to prove you plagiarized it.
