Today, my father took me out for some driving lessons. Out of nowhere, a huge, apparently suicidal bird dove into the windshield, putting a crack in it. My father yelled at me as if it was my fault, and is demanding I pay for the repairs. FML

Your dad is just trying to save face because there really is no one to blame for it. Try and explain to him it isn't your fault, otherwise you would have gladly paid. Don't flip him the bird though.

Maybe its a sign that u shouldnt drive? Lolol

That sucks, man. So not your fault. Sometimes people lash out at someone who's nearby because they don't know what else to do. Maybe offer to pay half?

Birds like to **** with you. This is my fear when birds swoop in front of my car.

with all respect op, your dad is a ******* asshole, tell him to **** a catus, explain him i is not your fault and don't pay. if possible, keep distance from him.

That's okay, OP! Yesterday I ran over a nail (which I naturally could not see from inside my truck), but it's apparently all my fault that my tire popped. Dads are just like that sometimes.

Study's have shown that birds can judge how fast cars are going, hence why they always get out of the way at the last minute, if you've hit the bird, it means you were speeding, so you're obviously at fault, though it does suck to be you

if birds can judge how fast a car is going, speeding really wouldnt make a difference.

Holy dimbat, check this dude out. 'You must have been speeding cause you hit a bird!?' Erm.. What?!

I bet it was a swan trying to do a swan dive.

My mother spoke of how in a love affair between two swans, that if one of them died, the other committed suicide, thus why they're such powerful symbols of love

Your fault because you didn't bother calling the suicide hotline

yeah not your fault, but if you want to use the car, seems reasonable that you're responsible enough to repair it.

Not always. That's just a rediculous assumption to make. What if it's the only car they have, and the OP has no choice but to learn in it for one reason or another? A learning driver is bound to make all sorts of mistakes and cause at least SOME damage to the car, and if that's a risk you're not willing to take, fork out money for professional lessons. When I got my license, we only had the one car. I backed into our fence and took paint off it, and my mum said not to worry about it when I offered to pay for it to be repainted. I was the one who had been driving the car when I came out of McDonald's to find someone had smashed the back window, and again I offered to pay for it but was told not to worry about it because it wasn't my fault. Hell, even a few weeks ago I got rear-ended, and the car's unfixable because of how hard I was hit. Again, my mother and her boyfriend don't give a single shit about the car because I was okay. TL;DR Only a **** of a father would make their child pay for something that wasn't their fault.
