It's a level of trust and comfort with the other person. She obviously feels more secure and comfortable with him and his bodily functions that he is with her. Personally would never do that but as others have said, each couple is different and I know couples who would not care a mite and others who are still embarrassed about farting in front of each other despite many years together.
