I think you're leaving something out. It must have been a serious relationship if you were together for two years, to the point that your looks (something as little and not permanent, like braces) would cause her to suddenly want to leave you. A lot of the time people don't realize that they have changed and not for the good, it took my ex boyfriend having to explain it to me for me to realize I suddenly started to turn into a complete bitch. So maybe you need to evaluate yourself because I think it is more than just braces.

You're right. My ex has no concept whatsoever of how he effects people. When someone reacts to him poorly or gets upset at him, he totally misses the fact that he did something really insulting to them to cause them to be upset with him. Unless OP, you know, is indeed 14, and his girlfriend was insulted at the idea that he was changing his appearance to be more attractive (to other people...ie, to other girls).

I agree that OP is likely leaving something out. A lot of people (especially females) tend to pile on the offenses when they are upset. Braces, or maybe OP bitching all the time about them or being high-maintenance as a result of them, may have just been the last thing on that list. It may not be the main reason but it's what stuck in OP's mind. OP, stop looking for people to be on your "side" and instead really think about what she said. She probably knew you fairly well and may just be the only person who confronted you.

Oh, and I think braces are ADORABLE :) I have very straight teeth and never had to get them, but my boyfriend had them when he was a teenager and he was too cute!
