Today, my husband was using the microwave when we suddenly hear a huge 'POP'. The good news is we found our daughter's missing hamster. FML

he didn't notice the hamster in there when he put the food in?

I'm not sure how you could not notice a frantic furry animal in your microwave.

It's forgivable. I mean, who would think to check for hamsters before using household appliances?

I agree it was an accident, but when you have a missing critter, it's a good idea to check before you do ANYTHING. I grew up with pet rats and, on the occasion one got loose, you were most likely to find them in the places you least expected them to be. If he didn't know it was loose, I totally get it because I don't always see the inside of the microwave when I put something in it. It's not like I haven't done it thousands of times. I could probably operate it just as easily with my eyes closed.

The thing is though, how did he get there? Someone had to deliberately place him/her there.

not necessarily someone may have left it open. sometimes if I want to put another plate I leave the microwave door open while I get the second plate. which is more than enough time for sad furry friend to get in.

The bigger question should be, how ON EARTH do you not notice a hamster in your microwave when you put something in to use it. They are NOT that big, it's not the closet to Narnia...

I just found out how dark my mind really is. I read this and the song Pop Goes the Weasel started playing in my head.

Thanks now that songs stuck in my head lol, poor hammy r.i.p.

This is utterly disgusting. Although, I want to know if your daughter saw what happened.

Either your husband is blind or your microwave is a black hole cause I can't see any other way for him not to see the poor hamster :'(

When I'm busy in the kitchen and I need to heat something up, I very rarely look into the microwave before I stick something in it and push start. However, in my hurry, I often leave the door open and don't shut it until much later, which I usually do without looking to see if a rodent has crawled in it.

This is an fml that I really wish still had the 'ydi' button. Accidents happen but I can't see how your husband can have missed a hamster in the microwave unless you have a tiny hamster, an enormous microwave and your husband was microwaving something on a tiny plate?

Really? How does OP deserve it when she had nothing to do with it? It was all her husband's fault.

Technically it still wouldn't be a YDI because the op isn't the one that microwaved the hamster. Saying YDI would be like saying you think it's somehow her fault that her husband didn't check the microwave for hamsters before turning it on. And then in his defense who expects there to be a hamster in the microwave. If I'm in a rush to eat I don't always look inside before closing the door and turning it on.

There's no YDI button? I see a YDI button on the mobile app...

I'm on mobile and the YDI button says "phew glad it wasn't me" to which I totally am

The new app seems to change the YDI button randomly to other things like "Phew, glad it wasn't me!" and " That could have happened to anyone." There is still a YDI on some.

Oh #22and #23 you are totally right to be fair. I guess it's more of an fml for op as there is now a dead hamster in her microwave that needs cleaned out (or, personally, I would throw out the microwave). It would be a ydi if the husband had submitted the fml. :-/

How did he even get into the microwave anyway?!?
