Today, my little nieces and nephews were about to have a water balloon fight. I was told to take pictures. They hit me. And my $600 camera. FML

I'm a poor college student so spending several thousand dollars on camera is way out of my budget. Trust me. It wasn't my idea to use my SLR. And if I had had it my way I'd have told my family members to shove it and put their own camera in the line of fire.

You tried to use a $600 camera to take pictures of things close enough and dangerous enough to destroy it. This is your fault, and I have 2 friends who are photo majors. Use a $100 camera for that, or get far enough away (like on the roof) so that it is safe. NEVER TRUST CHILDREN WITH WATERBALLOONS NEAR ANYTHING COSTING MORE THAN $100!

Lol wow. Some of you are not photo nerds :p I feel for you OP.i think I would cry if that happened. :) good thing about those cameras is that you can be at max zone and still majorly crop with amazing clarity.
