The dog was in the neighbors property "chasing the livestock" she told animal control when in reality the dog was playing with the horse. I went out to retrieve my dog when she shot. Probably didn't see me. The dog has escaped several times to several locations the past three years

I assume you were referring that OP'S neighbor was not a person but a dipshit? it kinda reads like you are saying the commenter is a dipshit for misspelling.. something? in case that is not what you meant, though you'd maybe want to know in order to clarify you meant no ill will towards the random commenter?
I'd prefer to take a bullet instead of my dog any day.

This is exactly what I came here to say. I'd rather take the bullet and be able to recover completely than have them actually hit and kill my dog!
This isn't an FML, this is a win, as in you're going to win everything he owns in the lawsuit.

This is why now you should sue him for endangerment or something, I can't believe your neighbour is so cruel as to try and shoot your dog don't give him a second chance.
He probably shouldn't have a gun... but let him have one because it is against the Constitution to control firearms in anyway at all even if the person with the gun is a maniac or just a ********. Glad you and your dog are still alive.
Oh, no. They found ways around that. Get in a fight with your spouse? No guns. Get picked up with a little weed? No guns. Speeding more than 15mph over? No guns. Involuntary institution? No guns. Defending yourself with a gun? No guns. All of these happen on the regular.
Unless your neighbor was trying to euthanize your dog with your permission (which, come on, there are way more humane ways to do!!!), you better be pressing ALL the charges.

Tried to shoot your dog... I hope you reported them to the policeman and they're currently trying to say hello from jail.
in this situation I'm going to be "one of those people." call the cops on his ass and then sue his ass. he needs to go to jail. first off, he kind of shot you. that's some shit right there. Buuut he tried to shoot your dog first. hell no. I'd be beating some ass. I like my fur babies more than I like most people so it would definitely be on. I'm glad the pup is Okay and I'm glad your injury wasn't worse than your leg, bc it could have been worse, for sure. good luck with everything.
