Today, my parents found out that my younger brother has been smoking pot. As his punishment, he can't be home alone anymore. And apparently, I'm now his full-time babysitter since I "don't have a life anyway." FML

Hey, everyone! OP here. After this happened, my parents enforced the rule for barely a day before they realized how stupid it was and how impossible it is to enforce. My brother (who is 18, by the way) ended up finding loopholes in every punishment that they gave him afterwards, while I lived my life of freedom. Thanks for your advice, guys; I enjoyed reading your comments!

tell your parents you won't care if he smokes again then they will most likely find a different alternative to babysit him

Smoke together. Won't be so boring when you're home.

You'd better stsrt letting him do worse shit so you can get off the hook. :)

just smoke with him honestly.. my older bro used to and i would freak the heck out....he got me high for the first time 3 years after that and now 3 & 1/2 years later we're the best of homies

Go chill somewhere else then, or he could share the spoils. At least he's not doing it somewhere he would get stabbed for it. But if you let them dictate how you spend your time that's on you.

they should talk to your brother about drugs. Punishment isn't enough.

The same exact thing happened to me, I feel your pain OP

You should just be cool about it and smoke weed with your brother and actually become close! :)

That's called parentification! It's your parent's job to supervise and discipline- it's not your responsibility and if it's not possible for them to supervise constantly, they need to find another way to handle the issue, without shifting their responsibility onto others. If I were you, I would blaze it up with your brother or tell him if he's going to do drugs at home, be discreet about it.
