Today, my parents have kept their bet going about not turning the heat on all season. I woke up this morning to it being the same temperature inside as it was outside. It's snowing out there. FML
I agree, your life sucks 33 540

It's not only a bet; it's a test of pride. Also know as a fight to the death. You are a casualty of war. Congratulations.

The cost of the hospital bill when your entire family gets pneumonia will be a lot higher than the heat bill.

Or..OP could it on themselves. Fight the power!

PUT in on. Put. Put..PUT..see what you've done now? Puuuut. (put).

Move in with a friend and leave your idiot parents to fight it out until then. If they're going to let their egos make it unliveable for you, then they have no foot to stand on for you wanting to be somewhere healthy.

Oh yeah, totally! cause it snows in people's houses all the time! nbd!

#2 I upvoted you. People obviously don't get this pun and just followed the lead of downvotes. It was quite the sarcastic comment in which made me laugh out loud. I applaud you, good sir.

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and/or bronchial airways. It cannot be contracted by being in the cold. Even so, it's cured by simple antibiotics, so it's still cheaper than a heating bill.

People have survived the harsh cold in the past, op will be fine.

#17, Then they'll bet on how long they can hold off calling the doctor. If they don't have health insurance, the hospital (or funeral) bills will be pricey.

My friend had pneumonia. She was in and out of the hospital for weeks. I bet her parents would beg to differ on the whole "cheaper than heating bill" argument.

This battle is about more than the money. They're both trying to wear the pants in the relationship. Winner takes all!

#20 define people. I mean I live in Canada so I would probably manage but for people living in Miami it's a different story. They could still manage maybe but it'd be all the more uncomfortable.

The cost of the pipes freezing and bursting would also be similarly high. (And actually IS a result of the cold.) I don't know what the temp is in Oregon, but the midwest is hitting the coldest temps in years, with our high today being a -8 F. If someone is stupid enough to leave their heat off, they're in for a mess of water when it warms up!

#17 - I've had pneumonia twice and each time I spent 4 days in the hospital. Walking pneumonia, which I've had several times as well, was cured with just antibiotics, but bed pneumonia is no joke.

Damn this recession! It's making Bear Grillis out of all of us whether we are willing or not.

One of my windows was smashed out. It is -17 celcius in my room, as we only have a wood heater and no wood.

Consider yourself lucky, OP.

You want a cookie? It might warm you up. No, I don't feel sorry for you.

A cookie would be nice, yeah, but i'm not sure if carbs will increase metabolism. On top of that, I live on a farm and my family is snowed in. We cut down a dead tree, though.

No heat but luckily your Internet is working!

Move in with friend till your parents come to their senses.

Fire up your dryer and get yourself some warm blankets, you can handle this! Just think how our ancestors had to get by without the fancy heaters. When in doubt, hibernate!

That's a bet that no matter the outcome everybody loses, including you!

I haven't lived in a place with heat in ten years. I've woken up to see my own breath in my bedroom several times in the last two weeks. It hasn't been snowing here, but it is in the 20s. Coldest ever was 10 degrees. Just layer up and until you can pay your own electric bill, move out, or get a space heater, suck it up.
