Hey this is OP, I made an account to comment and shed a little light on the situation. Yes, I go to public school, and yes we have to pay fines for damaged or missing books. The thing is, the back cover was only barely hanging on and it snapped off while I was taking it out of my bag. I put down in the original FML that it came off due to being worn.

man that's straight up something that would happen to me with my luck lol...
Life is hard
That's really not a big deal.
I bet the teacher... flipped out!
Consider ripping it off again and trying again... Or you can just throw it at the teacher screaming **** IT AŚSHOLE SUCK MY ASS, personally I would choose the second one it works better :3
At least the back cover would still be doing it's job-- protecting the pages on the inside.
Can't you just make a book cover and cover up the fact the back cover is upside down ?
Why would your teacher be interested in the back cover of your textbook?! you worry too much!
If they're borrowing the book from the school, they may have to pay fines for damaging it.
aw now it makes sense. .
Try re-gluing it, good luck OP :)

Just tell the teacher not to judge your book by its cover.
Blame it on a manufacturing error.
