With my kids they have pretty much free range to get their hair cut however they want. They make a suggestion and we look it up online. Usually they find that what they are describing looks not exactly like what they really want. When I let them help make the decision on how their haircut will go it enables them to be more independent and it makes the hair-cutting experience go much smoother. I will add my son went through a mo-hawk phase for awhile there. It was not allowed at his school so every summer for 2 years on the last day of school once he was out he got a mo-hawk. That was wildest they ever got in regards to hair.
Sometimes I really miss the voting option "I don't see the problem".

Ha ha..... that's cute. If you don't want to cut his hair that way then just him a Joe Dirt Wig. It might cost more than the hair cut, but you could be happy that he can take it off.
