Today, one of my co-workers invited me to a cookout at her house with some other people from my new job. She said to wear my suit. Assuming she had a pool, I showed up in a bikini, only to find everyone else wearing business attire and staring at me like I had lost my mind. FML

Why would they be wearing business suits to a cookout? Who does that?

Not so much an FML, you should have asked her to specify. You'll be made fun of, and laughed at about it later.. I suggest when that time comes make a snazzy comment like "Well, I stood out and I had the best outfit there. Always expect me to make an entran (e(insert wink he) e)" Don't dwell on it too much, it'll drive you insane.

suits at a party?!?!? WTF?!?!?!

I would have worn the same thing. "Suit" is not a term often used for women's business attire, and especially not in this context. Obviously the OP thought she understood what the hostess meant; why ask for clarification if you didn't think you needed it? Hostess: "... and wear a suit." OP: "Oh, you have a pool?" H: (eyeroll) "No, all the guys paid me off to see you in a bikini. Of course I have a pool." And OF COURSE she wore something over it, but OF COURSE it would still be casual pool-side attire. Even showing up in a sundress, which could be considered overdressing for a pool party, would still make her very underdressed in a yard full of business suits. Sounds like the hostess had it in for you.

funny. Wouldn't have happened in UK though. we don't use the term 'bathing or swim suit' Suit always means formal attire. Poor girl. Embarrassment would be an understatement.

howd you confuse SUIT with SWIMMINGSUIT .. dumbass
