Today, our boss asked us out to lunch and told us to choose wherever we wanted to eat. Thinking that she’d be paying for it, we chose a pricey seafood restaurant. When we'd eaten, she told us that we could pay her back later. FML

YDI for attempting to take advantage of your boss like that. I'm sure that if you hadn't chosen such a pricy place, that she would've gladly paid without asking to be paid back. Ass.

Might presumptuous of you, wasn't it? The last few places I've worked the boss would always pay, even for regular meals, but I would *never* think about taking advantage of this by intentionally choosing high priced restaurants. You're an ass.

I would never assume they were paying for me unless they specifically said "its on me!"

that's lame. she must have known that saying "eat whatever you want" heavily implies that she's picking up the tab...

however - you guys didn't need to pick the most expensive place you can think of. so kinda YDI

It doesn't actually say anywhere that op's boss told them they should order whatever they wanted. It says the boss told them to pick WHERE, which probably just meant the boss had no preference. Sounds to me like the boss would have paid had op not purposely been taking advantage.

Today, I bought expensive food and was expected to pay for myself. FML.

YDI. Since when did a friendly invite to go out for lunch mean the person who invited everyone HAS to pay? I thought it was common knowledge to pay for your own damn portion unless stated other wise. Sure I can agree saying "pick whatever you like" might imply she would pay, but it's still a YDI for trying to take advantage and still thinking she would pay for everything.

I treat my staff to lunch every now and then... As long as they understand that giving them a choice of what type of food to eat is absolutely not an invitation to choose the most expensive option. Everyone assumes the boss is rich and somehow doesn't have bills and a family to support! *sigh*

a failed attempt to take advantage of ur boss. -(OWNED)-

Hope you all learned a pricey lesson. Never take advantage of your boss or anyone else for that matter. Never order beyond your own means. At the very least, it shows you have respect. You failed. YDI

She's your boss, she can dock your salary just like that, so why would you expect her to pay for your food? She gives you the money every week/month/year ?? :S

If you had just eaten like you normally would have going out with friends instead of taking advantage of the situation you wouldn't have a problem. your bass taught you a lesson and don't you forget it.
