Today, our boss asked us out to lunch and told us to choose wherever we wanted to eat. Thinking that she’d be paying for it, we chose a pricey seafood restaurant. When we'd eaten, she told us that we could pay her back later. FML

YDI for attempting to take advantage of your boss like that. I'm sure that if you hadn't chosen such a pricy place, that she would've gladly paid without asking to be paid back. Ass.

Might presumptuous of you, wasn't it? The last few places I've worked the boss would always pay, even for regular meals, but I would *never* think about taking advantage of this by intentionally choosing high priced restaurants. You're an ass.

Asking a group out to lunch is not remotely the same as having a lunch meeting or being rewarded with a meal for a job well done. It's not only presumptuous, but rude to assume you boss could even afford to pay for everyone at an expensive restaurant. Don't try to take advantage of her kindness, pick a reasonable restaurant, and you might actually get a free meal once in a while. Be happy she even gave you the option of paying her back.

ydi for assuming, and for picking an expensive restuarant even if she was paying. it's common curtosy to pick somewhere and something fairly inexpensive when someone else is paying.

It was a test you silly sod! I would've replied "What do you think boss?".

I understand how you feel .. My roommate did that same bullshit to me the first time we arrived to college .. If she offered to pay then no one owes her shit

That's fair, but what part of the FML makes it even remotely sound like the boss offered to pay? OP assumed, took advantage of the assumption, and ended up paying for being an ass. Total YDI.
