I would have caught it, turned around and yelled, "It's over!" Either way, sorry to hear about what happened OP. Better to know now than later, especially if he is the one you want to marry.
He sounds like a jackass. If you drove there together in your car, you should have caught it and enjoyed yourself and then left his ass behind to get home on his own when you left.
