Today, while at the Golden Gate Bridge, I spotted a large group of Asians trying to take a picture. Trying to help, I slowly say, "You... want me... take picture?" while using hand motions. The man looks at me and says, "No thanks asshole, I got it," in plain English. FML

dude what the **** that's so ignorant. everyone knows that the usa has TONS of foreigners living here, and thankfully a good amount of them speak english. this kind of shit pisses me off, kind of like when i'm at work (at chickfila) and if i ask someone to repeat something on the headset they go "i said..i want...a number...two...no lettuce...with...a...DR...PEPPER!!" i'm not ******* stupid, dont talk to me like i am.

A lot of people do that becuase they think you cant hear them. I get that on the phone at my job if I ask for a repeat and the caller speaking slowly does help especially when there is interferance on the line.

you can't assume that they don't speak english. if they don't understand you the first time, thats when you annunciate and do hand motions. get in the right order.

Wow, idiots like you are why the rest of the world hates Americans.

I think this is the problem with us Americans. Asians can be American too! It's stereotypical and racist to assume that Asians are perpetual foreigners. I hope next time you see a group of Asians you will actually respect them instead of using your privilege to not disrespect them.

To #43, the OP didn't use the word "tourist" anywhere in the post, so did YOU even read the post? To OP: Gotta say you're an ass. I work in an area that has alot of foreigners and I talk like I'd normally talk. Treating them like idiots just pisses them off and doesn't help the situation even if you're trying to be nice. Also gotta say, I got a bunch of cousins in Cali and I don't know the area so OBVIOUSLY I'd be traveling around with them when I visit. So yes, it'd be a group of Asians and fyi, we were ALL born and raised in NYC.

I agree with #23, I know you were just trying to help but seriously, you shouldn't ever try speaking broken English to anyone unless they've already indicated that they can't understand you when you speak regular English. Especially since like what #10 said, the population of Asian-Americans in California is huge so the chances of them being perfectly fluent in English are pretty high. It's sad that everyone thinks white people are so racist when really we just tend to make dumb but unintended cultural misunderstandings right and left...
