The FML is that OP realized he's been in denial about Mom's shopping problem too. He was also likely enabling it by taking up her defense. This is a comical example, but true shopping addictions can get pretty serious. Just like drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, gambling etc., it can take years and lots of work, on both the addict's and her loved ones' parts, to fully recover. Enablers are addicts in their own right. Shopping addictions and eating disorders are especially difficult in another sense, because you can't ever stop eating or spending money the way you can totally avoid drugs or alcohol.
Now she won't have to breast feed when your surprise sibling comes :)
