Today, while trying to lift a weight bar at the gym, I ended up cracking my rib cage and almost passed out. My friend, who was supposed to be spotting for me, couldn't help until the last second because he'd snuck off to flirt with a pair of guys halfway across the room. FML

Tip 1: Make sure your spotter isn't being distracted before you begin to lift. Tip 2: Don't take your gay friend to a gym where muscular men show off their bodies and expect him not to be distracted.

Spotter is supposed to help you not spot other people across the room and chat with them...you should explain that to him... And about your ribs get well soon OP...

Its one thing to push yourself and another to know your limits

Why is people assume he is benching. He could be squatting and lost balance thus swayed to one side and cracked his ribs. He might not have taken too heavy a weight either, he could have been going to failure or near failure as part of his program.

try using the smith machine(the one on the rails) it's easier bc you don't need to count on ppl. I been lifting for 9 years and I use it
