Well...why did you leave the fridge open? Why don’t you guys get your sister a nightlight?
I'm guessing it was left open by accident. I've done it before.
It's easy to tell in these comments who pays their electric bills and who lives with their parents. When I was a kid I never left the fridge open, but never got why my dad hated me leaving lights on. Now my 12-yr-old stepson apparently doesn't get the "off" function of a light and I get it. He has actually asked why I was turning off lights on the main floor when everyone was going upstairs for the night and was confused why anyone wouldn't just want to light up the whole house if they could.
I don’t mean to sound hurtful, but your mom is right. You are being wasteful. And lazy. And thoughtless. And selfish. And your mom wouldn’t be a good parent if she didn’t try and stop you. Leaving a light on for a frightened little girl is not the same - it’s helping allay a little girls fears, and any good parent would do the same. A modern led light will use maybe 5 watts - a fridge will use hundreds after you’ve let all the cold out, and could impact the food - even damage the fridge itself over time. Not only that, you are refusing to take any responsibility or criticism for your actions and making false comparisons to try and make your mom out to be the bad guy. Nope - it’s you. Stop being so self righteous, grow up a bit, and do the right thing. Shut the damn fridge door.
God forbid anyone but you be self-righteous around here.
Two completely different things and you're an idiot if you can't see that.
as someone who became afraid of the dark as a child due to chronic nightmares, I have to say your mom is sorta justified. Leaving the refrigerator door open will waste energy and could lead to food spoilage.

leaving fridge doors open for lengths of time also makes food spoil quicker.
