If his user experience is at the low where he just "clicks on the thing" and has no idea what he is doing, then why did you leave him unattended with your laptop? YDI.
It's like with school children. You leave them for five minutes in front of a video expecting them to listen and the first thing you know, they somehow saw a blue anime cat-girl with big boobs called "The Thing" and clicked on it.
start with Malware bytes. then Avast (use multiple scanners/cleaners as they target different issues). then f9r him a computer consider getting and using g Deep Freeze. you sound like you won't regret it. and how old is your dad? I'm 50 and Gen X is way too computer literate to do/say that.
