Assumptions

Today, I was short shifted at work because one of my employees decided not to show up. Furious, I wrote her up and made predetermined judgments about her. When she came in, I went off on her for being absent and leaving me stuck. She then informed me her mom tried to commit suicide. FML

How would you have known? IMO, not your fault.

That's why you have to give people the benefit of the doubt. She could have been late for any reason and you chose ones where she is lazy or irresponsible

Even so, people need to phone in about having an emergency. She could be lying about it otherwise.

i hit "I agree, your life sucks" by accident, it totally doesnt, youre just a stupid c**t!

I would understand if said worker has been absent before but still should get all the facts before doing anything or else you run the chance of doing so rash and it comes back and bites you like said situation.

I said you deserve it because you flipped out at her and you should never flip out at employees but she still should have called.

You totally deserved it! you're just like my boss, who's ready to fire someone for being sick or not being able to come in because of some other serious reason.

The employee could have sent a quick text explaining the situation. The boss wouldn't be able to read minds.

YDI. People have things going on in life that you don't know about. So don't assume they're just calling in for no reason.

She could have called. I'd be extremely furious, so I don't blame OP one bit.
