Today, I had to tell my daughter that the gold wedding ring her fiancé gave her as proof he was serious about the wedding is actually just a brass compression ring, worth less than a quid. She refuses to believe me, because I’ve never liked him. I’m a plumber; I know a brass ring when I see one. FML

As a father I know that Noone is good ENOUGH for my daughter. However she found someone who is good for her. So instead of bitching and yelling I find ways to help him. Teach him skills, help him find better employment. It just may be that that ring is the best he could do for now. Also, ask her to get her friends opinionS on the ring. Not so you can rub in an I-Told-You-So, but so she can know how to identify real gold.

I would agree with you, except for the fact that he lied to her. If he had taken a compression ring and at least tried to decorate it with some scribed lines or something and told her what it is then, yes, I would agree that it was the best he could do.

Take her to the hardware store and show her.
