Cutting corners

Today, my boss expects me to conduct a meeting with a client, give him all the info he needs, and manage his campaign. This is because he fired the "expensive" marketing director and wants me, the intern, to continue his work. FML

Unless he is paying you I wouldn't help him at all. His stupidity doesn't warrant you having to help.

That's actually great work experience....even if it lasts for a day....

It's called ask for there spot ;) it's a good thing

Do the best you can. As an intern you shouldn't be responsible (legally) for any mistakes you make. So you can't loose but you can win alot in terms of experience, resume and so on. If you fail, the boss will be the one to blame.

I purposely muck it up and if something happens hey I'm just an intern I'm not the jack wagon who fired the guy who does this stuff

In Canada is it illegal for an unpaid intern to do the work of a paid employee. You can sure for compensation. Not sure about the laws in the UK but may be similar

step up prove you got what it takes and land a awesome job

That means: show me you can handle this. If you can't, I'll find someone who can. If you refuse, I'll find someone who will thrive under the pressure and ill pay them what I would have paid you. My boss did the same thing. Now I oversee 7 employees. I've gotten 3 pay raises, 2 bonuses and an office. Or you can be pathetic like the people who said **** that in the comments before mine.

It's risk you have to be willing to take. Going that extra mile may or may not get you what you want out of your career. After doing the work of five people at my current job for the past three years, I'm still making 10 bucks an hour with no raises or benefits yet, even though I've already been "promised" a pay raise three times since I started. It's even more disheartening that I'm the only employee at the company, other than my boss. Good on you that you were rewarded for your extra hard work, but it doesn't always work out for the rest of us; we just get another day of not being unemployed.

That's a great opportunity! Do your research and try to do it to the best of your abilities. You might end up scoring a job

Negotiate for the position after taking care of one or two of the clients.
