Delayed

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She said, "Sure, but not yet." As we've been together for five years, I was a bit confused, but she cleared that up with, "Not until your dad has died, I don't want him to ruin my wedding with a bad toast." FML

Encouraging a family member's death?! Ditch the Bitch!

Has she done the math? Unless he is in hospice care or over 70 already you could be looking a twenty more years of waiting. Come to think of it, even seventy isn't a safe enough number. Mine just turned 91. My question is really, is she worth that amount of time? Really?

Sorry it took 5 years for you to see how cold and heartless she really is but it's better now than never. Looks like it's time to move on, I'd say. It may hurt now but you'll be way better off in the end.

Guys, chill. I highly doubt the girlfriend was serious. My very first thought was that it was a joke in poor taste.

Exactly. More of a FML for the OP because it sounds like she said it during proposal, it's just an awkward and difficult response.

hope this was just a black humored danish joke!! FYL op!

I would think a lot about marrying her. She sound like a very shallow person and one who is plotting a family members death. Red flags are flying high here.

dumb that poor ecuse for a woman

The reason everyone says to run so easily is because marriages aren't ruined by huge catastrophes. Marriages are eroded away by small issues increase animosity and resentment over time. Sometimes it's better to realize it isn't going to work before the legal documents are signed. Her statement could be justified. Perhaps he is a known addict and has caused strife in the family before, as an example. Or it could just be she finds him annoying and is going to be a "brdiezilla." We don't know. But considering this ended up on FML I think the OP wanted his dad at the wedding. So, it causes me to lean toward the latter.
