Denial

Today, and every time I try to talk to my mother about being a lesbian, she just says in the most condescending way, "Oh no you're not sweetie, it’s just a phase." The "phase" has lasted 17 years, including marrying my wife and adopting twin sons, but sure, it’s “just a phase.” FML

just give it time..... the phase will pass.

So why are you still flogging this after 17 years? Give it a rest! You and your roommate will eventually find some nice men to pair up with.

You're already out. You're married and have a family. What's there to talk about?

They used to say “denial is not just a river in Africa”. Mom is deeply in denial. At this point her “phase” of denial isn’t likely to get better. I’m sorry but don’t expect anything from Mom, she’s either a religious nut job or just not coping with life very well. If you can interact at other levels with her in a satisfactory way and keep sexual orientation out of it and that’s acceptable to you, then live with that. If that’s not practical just cut her out of your life.

Tell her being an old nag is just a phase too.

Talk to her about her funeral arrangements. when she argues that she still has many years to live, tell her it's just a phase
