Today, our landlord has begun eviction proceedings because he’s received over 100 complaints about our dog, who barks constantly, and who my wife has stubbornly refused to get rid of. My wife has basically forced us to choose between that fucking mutt and being homeless. FML

oh cry me a river, train the dog

How about you act like a freaking adult and actually train your dog? And if you’re incapable of doing the training, be ******* responsible and hire a trainer. Thinking that getting rid of a dog because it is barking is a valid solution is the sign of a true ******* asshole that doesn’t deserve to ever have pets for the rest of your pitiful life. You should be ******* ashamed of yourself. Your wife is 100% right in refusing to get rid of the dog. Is it shitty it has progressed to this point? Yes. But there were other avenues that could’ve been pursued before it even got this far.

If she’s unwilling to rehome the dog (which I fully agree should be a last ditch effort) you should have looked into finding a behavioral therapist for the dog when the problem started. If you want to stay in your home, I’d highly recommend talking to your vet to find someone in your area that can help and then providing your landlord with documentation that shows you are addressing the problem.

100 complaints and ongoing eviction proceedings sounds a bit past the point of no return.... Good advice for their next place though.

Op called it "our" dog, not "her" dog. Therefore, he shares the blame.

Dog owners like you ruin it for the rest of us.

Don't you live there too? Train the damn dog.

As a landlord evicting people is a pain. If you agreed to take action in writing now by training/relocate the dog I bet he'd rather do that then go through the eviction process.
