Easy mistake to make

Today, I almost got in trouble at work, all because I inadvertently referred to a 19 year-old patient’s 47 year-old husband as her father. I didn’t know this until she got so upset that she threw a tantrum, filed a complaint against me, and requested another nurse. FML

Husband's absolutely a groomer. What a POS.

She's probably just a little sensitive because she gets that a lot.

you can ask but if you assume thats on you

How do you ask that without getting the same response? "Is this your father?" The situation doesn't come up often enough to warrant having a practice response. I guess you could point at him and say "and this is..." and wait for them to say something. 99% of the time though people are going to think you're an idiot for not assuming that it's the girl's or the boys mom. It's also a waste of time. OP I hope you don't work in a busy office because if you do you probably don't have time for this crap.

absolutely not your fault. there is something way wrong with a man who could literally have a grandchild by now married to a girl younger than half his age. if she wasn't legal, I would have reported him.
