aw so awkward... better luck next time!
Now, what to talk about around the thanksgiving table?
And the problem being?
Wow...what a coincidink.....an awkward coincidink.
hell yea this is a good fml, ahahahahahaha awwwwkkward
um im sure your sister would have informed you of where he was interning, especially since thats an extremely exciting thing meanimg hes almost a doctor. so in my pessimism i say fake
Good point! Although us med students don't look at charts 100% of the time if we're shadowing, rather than seeing the patients ourselves first. Also, I doubt she was "laying there all exposed" and that's when the doctor opened the door for the med student to come in. The doctors keeps a sheet over everything until the exam starts, and even then you have to peek under to sheet to see anything. This FML is a little contrived.
Even if you don't look at the chart you should at least know the name of the patient you are going to see. Otherwise how will you know how to greet them? Don't they teach you that in med school? They should, they taught us. AND it was a question on my USMLE step 1 exam so if you don't know that you need to know a patients name and the proper way to greet them before you go in you'd better learn that! Even when I was just shadowing my mentor would always show me the chart before I went in so I would have an idea of what we were dealing with. If they don't show it to you, ask to see it. Knowing what you are getting into before you go into the room is a very important part of being a doctor.
So I just read my comment again and it came across kinda rude, sorry! Didn't mean it that way. Us med students gotta stick together! :)
The problem wasn't that she didn't want a student in the room with her, OP already said that the Doctor asked her if it was ok. Since the doctor brought someone in, I assume OP said " Sure, it's ok. Bring a student in." The unfortunate part was that the student happened to be her brother in law. Read the WHOLE FML next time.
It is your body, you have the right to tell your OB/GYN that you do not want a student present during an exam.
Given the circumstances of this story, she probably did give them her permission to allow a student to observe. But I wonder, shouldn't they have given her the name of the trainee before she gave them permission?

Awkward as hell. He'll probably bring it up during the wedding toasts too. 8D
