So the guy is better at his job than you are at your hobby. What did you expect? His livelihood depends on being a great machine repair/testing guy. If your rent check and food cost had to be paid for by testing machines, you would probably burn a lot of calories per test too.

Those machines can't tell you accurately how many calories you're burning anyways. If you feel exhausted after a workout then it was a good workout, plain and simple. It's not about the little numbers on the screen.
I remember this girl on youtube, jenna marbles or something. She explained why some people seem to have burned more calories than others, while it's actually...no I don't understand so go look her up!
Maybe the machine was messed up and that is why he was fixing it?
