did you let him keep it?
Yeah. I think HE should have known that as a large man following someone quickly while yelling at them is NOT the way to make friends. You had every reason to believe foul play.
You need to chill. Only a very small fraction of the population actually goes around raping people, and most of them probably wouldn't have given you a warning. It's not YDI, because, as a man, I can't really comprehend the fear of rape, but seriously, chill. Most people are cool.
people! gahh. paranoia can save lives. and if i were alone, in a parking garage, and some huge man was following me, i would've pulled out mace [or my switchblade] as well. yes, better safe than sorry. and also, did the op SAY she was afraid of getting raped? what about robbed or mugged, huh? not all thiefs are rapists.
as long as you apologized, it's not a big deal. :)
What the ****? Why didn't you turn around and ask him what he wanted? Are you serious, you're so self-important that you really think everyone walking behind you wants to rape you.
Nobody ever thinks "I'm so important, everyone wants to rape me." Sorry. Rape is about causing harm to someone weaker and has nothing to do with a person being attractive or self-confident. And when you don't know someone who is chasing you, you can't know if they're one of the nice guys or not.
I don't know why everyone thinks you deserve this. I'm particularly shocked by #85--you clearly have never lived in a dangerous neighborhood. I go to college in a pretty rough area, and I would certainly be nervous if some big guy came running up behind me.

Today, I noticed someone leaving the parking garage. She dropped a 5-dollar-bill. I picked it up and tried to return it to her, but when I caught up to her, she turned around and threatened to spray me with mace. FML.
lol at #2 But yeah I once saw an old man drop his glasses without realising, so being a good citizen, I picked them up and ran after him. I got punched by a passer-by who thought I was trying to jump the old man. FML
