Freaked out

Today, I was leaving a campus parking garage. Suddenly, a huge man appeared behind me and kept saying "HEY!" "STOP!" In a gruff voice. I picked up my pace and so did he. I finally turned to him with a can of mace and threatened to use it. He was trying to return the $5 bill I dropped. FML

Today, I noticed someone leaving the parking garage. She dropped a 5-dollar-bill. I picked it up and tried to return it to her, but when I caught up to her, she turned around and threatened to spray me with mace. FML.

lol at #2 But yeah I once saw an old man drop his glasses without realising, so being a good citizen, I picked them up and ran after him. I got punched by a passer-by who thought I was trying to jump the old man. FML

kinda reminds me of a story that happened to me a few weeks ago, it was the night of my school dance, and i was about to leave.. as soon as i start walking towards my car, i hear footsteps behind me and all i hear is someone saying im gonna kill you.. im gonna kill you.. so i started to speedwalk, then the person screams my name, it was my friend all along and he thought i was mad at him or ignoring him , he didnt believe the i didnt know it actually was him lmfao, but anyway yee i wouldnt have known that someone would actually return a five dollar bill, so i wouldve just looked back for like a second, but i probably mightve done the same thing

I'm not going to bother replying to specific posts, there would be too many. But, a few points to make: 1) people mentioning a "defenseless" woman and saying fyl are idiots. Unless you're paralyzed, there's no excuse not to be able to defend yourself. Take martial arts classes, stay in shape, respond aggressively if someone attacks you. 2)It's true that the vast majority of people aren't out to get you; it's also true that you're better of accidentally hurting someone than getting raped. The reaction here wasn't completely unreasonable, at least she didn't spray while turning like an earlier fml where a lady sprayed her own shadow. 3)Don't trust mace to protect you. It can be fairly easily overcome by a focused attacker. If someone really wants to hurt you mace will not stop them, you would be better off with a handgun or a nice big knife.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but give people the benifit of a doubt. Not everyones after you...... poor guy, he should've just kept the money haha

I don't see why you didn't turn around to see why they were shouting at you. If they looked threatening then kick him and run away.

to the person above...obviously to this person the man sounded threatening. Majority of people are not going to put themselves in a position to get hurt or possibly killed. Anyway, to the person who wrote this, i completely understand your fear, parking garages are freaky as hell and so are people following you saying hey stop

It's his fault for saying "Hey! Stop!" instead of saying "Miss, you dropped something!"

If your approaching a complete stranger, in a parking lot, when they're not even looking at you, it's better to say "excuse me miss" than "HEY! STOP"!

For all the people that are criticizing her for being afraid and running away, you have no idea what it's like to be approached by dirty bums or whistled at in a less-than-safe setting. You may not be rapists, but some men are. stfu.

This is what happens when 2 idiots meet. You could have asked "wtf do you want", and he could have said "you dropped your 5 dollar bill". If either one of you had done that, then you would have been OK. But noooo- you both fail!
