It's not like its some M rated horror game. He's just using his imagination to make a world of his own. He's fine playing at 6 and I'm sure he's supervised.
What the hell is wrong with a 6 year old playing Minecraft? I feel sorry for your kids.
Why not?
That is so cruel. Your son just wants to use his imagination to make his own world in a rather harmless game(it's on of my favorite games and I'm 27!) This is one of the many reasons why I left the church after high school(I was Catholic). I'm sorry OP, I hope he gets better. And I hope your father in law betters himself also. Hang in there!
OP, If you and your family are not religious, just explain that granddad is superstitious and that superstitious are just made up and not real. If you and your family are religious you have to explain that granddad is wrong and that God gave us a mind and imagination to use and that there is nothing wrong with using them to create things of beauty and use. Then make sure that nut job is never around your child unsupervised again. He’s an idiot who fears what he does not understand. That’s bad enough, but dumping those fears on his grandchild is not OK.
Just trade in your Minecraft stuff for The Sims. I'm sure your fanatic father-in-law will be appeased.
Im gonna assume you're religious OP. people like your father in law is the reason i stopped believing in God. it seemed like everything God wanted me to lined up with the church raising money. im talking about dont buy video games or a movie or a new car instead donate it to us. i realized one day we never see where that money goes, for all i know it could have gone into the priests pocket. i also stopped believing because one of the priests in my city was arrested for sexually assaulting young boys. so i left the church and haven't gone back. its easier not having to worry about whether or not the action i will be causing will send me to hell. instead i think is this illegal, if not im good.
By that logic, anything creative is a sin. Movies, books, video games, etc. I say go to FIL’s house and “confiscate” all his sinful belongings to “save his soul.” But maybe I’ve just been spending way too much time on the petty side of Reddit.
It's certainly better than MY idea - paying the FIL a visit and beating the crap out of him while telling him to ask God to save him. I am aware this shows a streak of hostility, but I have NEGATIVE chill on adults who want to traumatize children.
What would he have said if he saw your son play Black and white?
Tell him JRR Tolkien, also a very religious person, believed the exact opposite and that creating our own worlds was a special power God gave us all.
He's good. We don't burn kids. We only burn jerks. Like me.
