Gamers care

Today, I was interacting with someone on a video game, and the topic somehow got switched to mental illness. When I told him about my problems, he was very sympathetic and understanding. A complete stranger cares more about me than my actual family. I'm not sure if I should be happy or crying. FML

I have the same thing. I don't know your situation but dealing with someone else's depression/anxiety/bipolar etc is harder when it's someone we know and care about. Even more if they don't have it themselves and then it comes off as insensitive when really they just don't understand it. I'm glad to hear you've found someone you can openly speak to though as thats extremely important and comforting. Good luck OP and I hope you things start to get better for you.

So you know Spider George? "Average human eats 100 spiders per year in their sleep is not a true fact, Spider George eats 99 in his sleep and is an outlier that should not be accounted for" meme? Your parents are two Compassion Georges--they don't have a lot of compassion. So when they looked for a life partner, they found each other. And if that's your only data set, it's gonna seem like the whole world is full of awful people. But they're outliers! The world is full of COMPASSIONATE people. And being related to them by blood means you can curse their names and set off on a quest for vengeance that will lead to your supervillian triumph over puny mortals. And then you never have to hear about Compassion Georges again.

Sorry to hear about your family, but take solace in the fact that a wide cross-section of humanity would sympathize if they knew.
