At least she asked...
a confederate flag does not mean racist and if she was racist in sure you would already known and it wouldnt have to do with a flag
Ok the confederate flag is considered the flag of the army of Virginia back in the civil wars it has nothing to do with racism.
War*
The flag has nothing to do with racism
Regardless of what it was fought for (and slavery was a far larger part of the equation than you're giving it credit for), hanging that flag will generally be perceived as a racist statement. You can also talk about how the swastika used to be a good luck symbol, that doesn't mean it carries those same connotations now. OP clearly saw the flag as a racist issue, otherwise they wouldn't have posted that they were black at the end.
I may be wrong, but I think the swastica is similar to, not the same as, the Buddhist symbol.
so? why does everyone rush to make everything racist? good gracious. folks need to simmer down.
Some brief history for you: the Confederate flag was based on the British flag. Lincoln made the reason for the war about slavery; the South always insisted it was about states rights. Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation only freed the slaves in the South, not the North; in fact there were slaves in some Northern or neutral states throughout the war. Lastly, the winners write history. This has been shown consistently throughout recorded history. Additionally, this conflict has been over and settled for nearly 150 years. If she is prejudiced, I understand your misgivings... but I know quite a few people that enjoy displaying those colors and have no issues with black people at all. Hope this all works out for you :)
A little history for YOU: regardless of the origins of the confederate flag, it has been used as a racist symbol SINCE the civil war. It was adopted by the KKK and was used by protesters of segregation during the civil rights movement. The meaning of a symbol is based on public perception, not origin. For instance, the swastika was originally a symbol of hope, which is why it was adopted by the nazi party... But no one ever defends the swastika. Why? Because the public perceives it as a symbol of antisemitism. In conclusion, **** the confederate flag and those stupid enough to defend it with "history"...
She probably is just a fan of states rights.

It shouldn't, but it does, and too many effing people ignore that. The n word in the dictionary originally had a completely different meaning, but guess what? Now it means something else. People who hang and fly the confederate flag know exactly what it says. As far as the people who claim they fly it for "Southern pride" or their loss in the Civil War or whatever, they need to get over being all butthurt over losing a war that happened *150* years ago (and yes, the whole slavery part of it was a HUGE deal to them) and realize we are one nation, the UNITED States of America. All this whole Southern pride and cecession crap is BS and nonsense.
