Why does someone always have to give an excuse to break up? They can just say, "we're breaking up" end of story, no need to know a reason, it's over.

A lot of people are scared and/or they don't want to sound like a complete heartless asshole. It usually has the opposite effect, but that's just how many people deal with things.

Not having a reason also makes it a lot harder for some people to move on, after the break-up.

17, Absolutely! The only girl who broke my heart gave me a reason and I spent about a week trying to explain to her why she misunderstood. Had she just said "I'm done," sure I would have asked why, but had she just said, "I just am," or "I don't need a reason," I'd have been able to just walk away without feeling the need to change her mind.
