Great deal

Today, I arrived in Africa to start my new job. I agreed to come to a city with little to no electricity, and poor water for triple the money I was making in Canada. I just realized my boss and I negotiated in two completely different currencies, and I'm now making half of what I used to. FML

It's somewhat idiotic but, in his defence, a lot of African countries do use dollars as their currency, just not US dollars.

Seriously??? Could you really be THAT stupid????? YDI for sure!!

Common sense Epic fail. When you talking about money and another country you have to understand you are dealing with different currencies.

Look at it this way - you will be able to live much more cheaply in Africa, and you'll go back to Canada a very different person. It's a once in a lifetime experience that you should appreciate.

Pretty naïve. I can't help wondering how much life experience you have to get into such a position. In your defense, Sudan uses the Sudanese Pound so perhaps you were somewhat confused or blinded by big numbers. If you said "what currency is that?" and they answered "pounds" then I can sort of see how this may have happened. But still, that means you never checked up on the cost of living or the local currency of the place you were moving to..... Anyway, now you have a unique and exciting opportunity to live and work in an amazing place and gain some of that (possibly much needed) life experience. I couldn't be that bad if you have internet.

good for you for getting away from canada

I call bullshit, from the comments I've read it seems like you claim that you've moved to Sudan. The Sudanese pound is three times less then the Canadian Dollar so if you thought you were making triple due to thinking the offer was in dollar then you would actually be making the same in Sudan as you made in Canada.

So just use what you need & save the rest & trade it for US currency when you come back. Duh.
