Here comes the flood

Today, I found out that having a rug in your bathroom has more uses than I thought. For example, it can soak up a ton of water when your shower head randomly bursts and starts spewing water non-stop while you're at work. There's still water everywhere, and no more showers for the foreseeable future. FML

One more possibility - Shower-head has an "off" position and OP used this and left the shower valve on - Very dumb move. Always shut off the main valve and don't rely on the shower head "off". At least if this is the scenario it's an easy fix - New shower-head. It just takes a pair of pliers.

I’m curious to as how this happened. My shower head has no water going to it when I turn the water off, so if it does happen to burst, I would be right there to turn it off

Clearly a shower valve problem (not the shower head) or an exaggeration, or a careless roommate.

I had something similar happen at my job. I work in a hospital. A patient was showering and one of the knobs came off. Water was going everywhere. We made a tower full of towels to keep the water contained. They got in contact with maintenance who came and fixed the problem
