Here I go again

Today, I went to start my new job, only to find out that the guy who hired me had no permission to do so. I had to fill out another application, and complete another interview and I still might not get the damn job. FML

That's a red flag if I've ever seen one. If you can now would be a good time to look for work elsewhere.

Sure hope they did something about that guy, that's just awful to make you go through all that trouble

Not every business is big enough to have an HR department.

You could threaten a lawsuit, but that's a bad way to start a new job. If would email HR nicely outlining what happened, especially if you left another job, or even stopped other pursuits/interviews. Then ask if anything can be done. They should be smart enough to realize their exposure.

Actually he has no grounds for a successful lawsuit. He was told that he was hired by someone that did not have the authority to represent the company in that situation. He has about as much ability to sue them as he does me for my first comment.

Make sure to get paid for the work you've done! Or as the Americans do.. sue them!

This is a classic case of one interviewee arrived before you and when you arrived, there was no interviewer yet so this guy pretended to be the interviewer and then hired you! Congrats. But turns out they didn't hire him either. Good Luck on trying to get the job, again but that's some shady crap. FYL

Walk away. They don't have their stuff together. It won't be worth the headache.

Ah, you must be "that guy" who hired OP in the first place
