How did it come to this?

Today, I had to say, "Put away your burrito," "That ruler is not a lightsaber," and, "Stop making dog noises" all in the same sentence at work. I teach Advanced Placement Calculus to high school seniors. FML

All AP classes are silly and sarcastic in my school. You must break up the monotony of life and shield yourself from the sometimes scary AP classes with humor, however silly! Our teachers go along with it though. It's not standing in the way of learning. We just don't need babied and explained in depth so we have time to goof around sometimes.

Intelligence and maturity are two different things. All of my AP classes were like this, but our teachers let us act out as long as we weren't causing any trouble. It helped us make better grades to cut up in class. The serious and "mature" kids made the worst grades.
