Provided it's unusual for customers to hang around, why wouldn't you involve your boss or go tell him you aren't interested now? You think he's going to take it well after waiting for 6 hours? Do get someone to walk you to your car, though, and make sure you aren't followed on your way home.

There's a way to avoid that... apologize! I used to work at a sandwich shop and if I touched a customer on accident I ALWAYS apologized. Even if it's just your hands touching, some customers will flip a shit. Don't make a big thing out of it, just be like, "Oh, I'm sorry." Then they can't complain that you did it on purpose or think that you were flirting.
