Today, the city shut off our water, because they said we didn't pay the bill. Turns out, it was sitting on their desk the whole time. I guess sending someone out to turn off our water was easier than checking to see if we'd actually paid the bill. FML

Anything but do their job right, right? That's how billing people work.

I'm sorry to hear that op. P.s. when I read it, I thought the public works had shut the water down for the entire city.

My first thought was do you live in Detroit

FYL Op. Dealing with stupid people sucks. I hope your problem gets sorted out! :)

This is actually a big issue happening in low income areas, water being shut off with no warning. I'd start reading up on your rights, and see if anyone else in the neighborhood got the same treatment.

I hope they credited your account for the next month as an apology for their incompetence.

Don't they offer you the option to pay it online?

Get them to refund the day you started paying for it. If it's their screw up, they owe YOU

can we say lawsuit against the city?

The electricity company did this to my parents... We changed the address but they kept sending the bill to our old address, we told them over and over that we hadn't received it and to send it to the new address. Still never got it but oh they could drive to the new address to turn the power off. Douchebags.
