Today, while standing in line at the supermarket, I reached past my wife to get a pack of gum. She jokingly did the "battered wife flinch" to get a laugh, and smiled at me from behind her hand. The cop staring at us obviously didn't notice the smile and definitely didn't think it was funny. FML

Today, I had to stand next to my wife at the supermarket, beet-red and pretending not to exist; about half an hour into our shopping, she completely lost her shit at the advertising on the loudspeaker, turned to another patron, and screamed into his face to shut the fuck up. FML

Maybe it's only hilarious to you, as you've probably never been a abused. The cops didn't think it was funny, because everyday they get phone calls and have to go see these broken, battered and scarred women. From the viewpoint of a woman who's been beaten by a man, it's the most disgusting form of humor. Right down there with the rape jokes which seem to be popular nowadays. People are sick.

How is that even funny??? Domestic violence is not something to joke about, it's a very serious issue. Your wife is lucky, for she must have had a cushy life or something to not even realize that violent situations in relationships do exist, and are definitely not something that are something to laugh about.
