Today, I overheard someone at the mall telling his friend, "So I'm going in for a brain scan." Trying to be funny, I piped up, "Better hope they find something!" Turns out that had been the end of his sentence, and the scan is to see if his cancer has spread. FML

my husband died of a brain tumor after his cancer spread to his brain and it was difficult to explain to friends as eventually his mental state would become dimished. this guy was trying to tell his friend something extremely important while he still could and you made an already difficult situation a joke. perhaps this is why you had no one to talk to at the mall...if you weren't an ass you'd have some friends.

I'd be sympathetic if there was any way that sentence could have been mistake for something innocuous, but I can't imagine a situation where I would think joking to a stranger about brain scans would be a good idea.

So if they're going in for a brain scan, they're spending quite a bit, depending on whether they have insurance or not, and it's not done saying oh I wonder how big your brain is. Cancer is probably the first thing that would come to mind. Not just insensitive. You're an idiot

2 problems: 1, dude didn't just slip and say something on a reflex. He actually had to think about it enough to say oh that's funny to say to COMPLETE STRANGERS about a medical test which probably indicates cancer any way you look at it. 2. He (I'm assuming he) proceeded to post it to say please feel bad for me. If anything, I feel bad for his victim who got that crap on top of apparently dealing with brain cancer

But this woman didn't think at all, she just copied. This is ripped straight from another post that was in moderation....only differences is a mall setting with strangers, instead of a work setting with some friends...the rest is a direct copy and paste. While it may have happened to someone, it wasn't this lady. You deserve all the scorn piled here.

That's an epic blunder on your part. Normally, I'd say people who get their feelings hurt deserve to, but OP, you ****** up. No one gets a scan done for ***** and giggles, it's almost always a very serious and frightening reason.
