To be fair - speaking as a previous exchange student myself - he most likely did not run from his problems. When our visa (that the US gives us) expires at the end of your stay -( in my case after a full highschool year) we are REQUIRED to leave the united states almost immedialy. I think he most likely dosn't even know - and if he does he doesn't have a say in leaving the country.

Getting married just because she is pregnant is a terrible idea, and is not going to make the kid's life any better.
